Outbreak of chicken pox leads to cancellation of Jones county football game

Ellisville (WDAM)- Two students on the Biloxi high school football team have been diagnosed with chicken pox, and as a result, school officials have canceled their opening football game against South Jones in Ellisville Friday night.

Braves head coach, Cecil Hicks confirmed to Seven on your Side that they are not playing, and he did not indicate when or if the game will be rescheduled.

Chicken pox, which is spread primarily through coughing, is a highly contagious though rarely fatal illness with symptoms that include skin rash of blister-like lesions, covering the body but usually more concentrated on the face, scalp, and trunk.

The incubation period for chicken pox is seven to 10 days, which means that by the time skin lesions appear, one has been infected for several days.
