Opera Assn. director outlines new goals

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The new artistic director for the Mississippi Opera Association is a Hub City man who has an ambitious 10-year plan for that organization. Jay Dean is also the music director for the Southern Miss Symphony Orchestra.

He says he wants to start an educational outreach program which would bring opera to everyone from young students to nursing home residents. He also hopes to host vocal competitions for both local and national talent.

Over the next decade, Dean would like to see the association perform a mix of traditional operas in concert with other events, such as a guest artist or gala.
