HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg city leaders are about to take a plea for federal funds to the nation's capitol in hopes of replacing the city's police department.

Mayor Johnny DuPree told the city council Monday night the plans were to get a new building, but if the current one must be renovated then that's the route the city would take.

Currently the department operates out of an old hospital building with certain areas abandoned because of deteriorating conditions.

City leaders would also like to see police and fire administrations under one roof, making a more uniformed operation.
