NEW ORLEANS, LA (WDAM) - Spectator safety will be the focus of a conference in New Orleans Monday conducted by The University of Southern Mississippi.

The national conference and expo, "Balancing Safety, Security and Spectator Experience," will include Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell as featured speakers.

"With professional and college football seasons around the corner, as well as the World Series not far beyond, spectator safety is high on the minds of many in both the sports protection and sports industries," reads a prepared statement from USM.

Other presenters include security directors from most American professional sports leagues; federal, state and local law enforcement; plus major college sports conferences.

The National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition is the first of its kind in the U.S. It provides an environment dedicated to security/safety technologies, products, services and education all aimed toward safeguarding the sports venues and spectators.
