GEORGE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Capital murder charges have been filed against two people in the hit-and-run slaying of George County Sheriff Garry Welford.
Bond has been denied for 18-year-old Brandy Nicole Williams, and 24-year-old Christopher Lee Baxter who were caught Thursday morning at a mobile home a few miles away from the crime scene.
In neighboring Greene County, an individual tipped off authorities to their location after a $5,000 reward was posted Thursday night.
The district attorney says authorities were chasing Baxter because he skipped a sentencing date on a drug charge.
The sheriff was run over while he tried to stop their pickup by putting spikes on the road.
Authorities aren't saying which of the two suspects were driving the pickup.
They could face the death penalty if convicted.
