Bomb squad ordered to Hattiesburg business

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg Police are still investigating a suspicious package that prompted an evacuation of two Hub City businesses Thursday.

The evacuation ended around 5 p.m.

Few details about the package have been released, but officers said it was discovered by an employee of Southern Bone and Joint in a back room of the building Thursday morning. The building was then evacuated.

Later, employees from Nicholson and Company next door were also evacuated after a bomb squad from the Biloxi Police Department arrived. Officers said the package was sprayed twice with high-pressure water before they determined it was safe to handle.

Hattiesburg police will be inspecting the contents.

Employees were allowed back into both buildings after officers checked them.
