JASPER COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A recent rash of convenience store burglaries in the Pinebelt has created a unified search effort for the group of people responsible and investigators are asking for the public's help.
Thieves first throw a rock through the door and steal as many tobacco products as possible, mainly sticking with the Newport and Kool cigarette brands as well as Black & Mild cigars.
One robbery happened last week at the Red Apple Convenience Store in the Stringer Community of Jasper county. Previous places hit were in Laurel, Sandersville, Columbia and Bay Springs, all matching the same crime. The suspects are believed to be making profit from the stolen goods.
"From information that we're getting from confidential sources they're selling them on the streets," said Jasper County investigator Lt. Thad Windham. "They're not leaving us much evidence. We do have some evidence from two or three of the crime scenes, but they're not leaving us that much evidence. These are late night burglaries, primarily after midnight."
If you have any information you're asked to call your local law enforcement or Crimestoppers.
