Lamar County records first murder of the year

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Lamar County Sheriff's Department is investigating the murder of a Hattiesburg man found dead Wednesday night.

Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel has identified the body found as Wayne Davis, 26, of Hattiesburg.

Davis was shot multiple times at an apartment complex on Primrose Avenue around 9 p.m. Wednesday night.

Rigel said another victim was also shot but would not release the name. He said the victim is ICU at a local hospital. 

No arrest has been made, but investigators have received several leads.

    Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
