LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Gas prices at the pumps across the nation continue a gradual decline through the summer months. Here in the Pine Belt that figure is even lower
The national average for a gallon of unleaded gas is currently $2.71 while the state average is 22 cents cheaper at $2.49.
The decline is in part because of rising supplies and the troubled global economy.
Here in the Pine Belt the lowest prices can be found in the City of Laurel. Many Pine Belt area residents make the trip to Laurel to fill up where they have been able to save 30 cents or more per gallon.
"I wish everybody would come down and make their prices more reasonable, it's ridiculous to have to pay these prices, " says Bruce Howard of Quitman. "In Quitman, the little town of Quitman, now it's higher. You go to Meridian, it's just as bad."
Gas prices are expected to continue a slow decline through the summer months.
