Wreck kills wife of Hinds Community College President

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The wife of Hinds Community College President Dr. Clyde Muse was killed this afternoon in a one-car accident on Highway 49 south of Hattiesburg.  The Highway Patrol says 76-year-old Vashti Muse died around 1 p.m. when the Ford Crown Victoria she was riding in left the highway in Brooklyn near the Black Creek Bridge and struck a tree.

The car was being driven by Dr. Muse and the Highway Patrol says he may have fallen asleep just before the accident.  He received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Forrest General Hospital.

Officials with Jones County Junior College say a meeting of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College Board of Trustees was scheduled to convene at 3 p.m. today at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi.

It's unclear at this hour whether the Muses were headed to that meeting.
