HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The artistic centerpiece of the 4-year-old Thad Cochran Center at Southern Miss was the focus of a special ceremony this afternoon. The university community gathered to celebrate the mural called, University's Bounty.
It was painted by retired Southern Miss art professor William Baggett. During today's event, a new plaque was unveiled, listing the donors who made the mural possible.
"It's a wonderful thing to recognize donors in this regard," said Baggett. "It's one thing to have an event where you can contribute money and the event is over in a few days or a week, but when you can become part of something far more permanent, I think that's a wonderful thing for the visual arts," Baggett said.
The mural is oil on stainless steel panels.
Combined weight of the piece is 12,000 pounds.
