JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi Supreme Court upheld the 20 year sentence of a former Laurel doctor for the 1997 murder of his wife Thursday.

The court ruled 5 to 4 against overturning Malachy DeHenre's 20 year sentence behind bars.

DeHenre was found guilty of manslaughter during his second trial in January of 2008 for the shooting death of his wife Nayasha DeHenre 13 years ago. The first trial ended with a hung jury.

Jones County Assistant District Attorney J. Ronald Parrish said although the decision by the supreme court was close, it was one worth waiting for.
