New pseudoephedrine law takes effect

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - On July 1, a number of new laws take effect in Mississippi.

The most well-known requires a doctor's prescription to purchase medicine containing pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in the manufacture of crystal meth.

The law is designed to curb the state's escalating drug problem by reducing meth manufacturer's access to the drug.

The law was passed as part of the 2010 legislative session.
