Twilight fans celebrate film by giving blood

HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Vampires and humans have one thing in common - we both need blood to survive.

That is why the American Red Cross hosted a blood drive Wednesday at Hattiesburg's Grand Theatre in conjunction with the premier of the latest Twilight film, Eclipse.

Many Twilight fans were eager, despite their love of Edward, to starve a vampire by donating blood at one of the American Red Cross's two mobile blood units located in the theatre's parking lot.

Samantha McCain handles communications and development for the Red Cross's South Central Chapter in Hattiesburg.

McCain said, "Blood is a necessity. We are having a deficit of type O, which is very rare. So we are hoping people will come out and donate so we can get that stock back in.

Inside one of the mobile units Twilight fan, Misti Harvey, was donating blood for the very first time. She advised fans to, "Go ahead and make a Vampire thirsty!"

Some good advice, the Red Cross hopes Eclipse fans will latch onto this summer.
