HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg residents, city leaders and co-workers gathered to say an official goodbye to school superintendent Dr. Annie Wimbish, who is leaving Wednesday after 5 years on the job. A farewell reception for Wimbish was held this afternoon at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.
Wimbish took over as superintendent in 2005. In April, she announced she was leaving the district.
Assistant Superintendent Jimmy Hopkins will temporarily take her place while the school board searches for a permanent replacement.
Wimbish is moving east, where she'll serve as a consultant for a private organization which works on school reform issues.
