HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg School District named an interim superintendent Monday.
During a special meeting Monday morning, the Hattiesburg School Board named Jimmy Hopkins, who has been assistant superintendent since 1996, as the interim superintendent.
Hopkins has been in the Hattiesburg School District for more than 25 years. He started working in the district in 1984 as co-principal of Hattiesburg High School and was later moved to the district's main office in 1986 as the district's assistant superintendent of personnel.
Current Hattiesburg Schools Superintendent Annie Wimbish's last day is June 30.
Hopkins will step in as interim superintendent on July 1.
The board hopes to name a new superintendent by September 1.
