Ham radio "Field Day" underway

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Ham radio operators across the country are spending today and tonight testing their emergency broadcasting capabilities in a national competition. It's part of an annual, "Field Day" event.

For 24 continuous hours, amateur radio operators, including many in the Hattiesburg area, are trying to reach as many other operators as possible.

"Field Day" tests portable antennas, generators and other equipment.

It ends at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
