Woman shot, robbed while walking home

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Hattiesburg woman is recovering from a gunshot wound tonight, after she was attacked and robbed while walking home from a nightclub early Saturday morning.  It happened at the intersection of Campbell Drive and Blue Gables Road shortly after 1 a.m.

Officers say the 21-year-old victim was near her apartment when a white Ford car pulled in front of her.  They say the driver, a black man wearing khaki cargo pants, approached her and hit her in the head several times, before stealing her purse and leaving the scene in the car.

The victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where it was discovered she had also been shot once in the leg with a small caliber weapon.  Police say the victim was treated and released.

They are still looking for the suspect.
