Cemetery owner going to jail

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The owner of 4 Mississippi cemeteries including one in Laurel has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for stealing from the business. 66-year-old Don Middleton was sentenced in connection with failing to file cemetery records for 2 cemeteries in Booneville and Baldwyn.

He still faces similar charges involving Sunset Gardens in Laurel and another in Calhoun County. No trial dates have been set for those 2 cases.

The State took over the cemeteries when an investigation discovered deficient pre-need trust accounts at all 4 properties.
