Alleged Lamar County meth cooks appear in court

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- A Lamar County couple whose home exploded while they were allegedly in the process of making meth made their initial court appearance Thursday.

Jonathan Burnett, 36, has been ordered held on $75,000 bond on a charge of manufacturing meth. Meanwhile, his 26-year-old wife, Erin, is being held on $10,000 bond on charges of possession of precursors.

The Burnetts allegedly had a working meth lab in their home on Willow Lake road in Lamar county.

Authorities arrested the pair, and while they were waiting outside for a hazmat team to show up and remove the lab, the home exploded. No one was injured. In addition, because the home was located within 1,500 feet of a daycare, their penalties will double.
