Pine Belt teens elected to office at Girls State

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - State appellate court judge Donna Barnes was at Girls State Wednesday to swear in the elected officials for the state of Magnolia.

Four of the eight teens elected to top office are from the Pine Belt area.

Victoria Jones of Petal High School was sworn in as Governor.  Also from Petal high, Nicolet Harper was elected Lieutenant Governor.  Bridgett Andrews from Hattiesburg High was sworn in as State Treasurer, and Elizabeth Winton from Columbia High School was elected Insurance Commissioner.

Last years Girls State Governor, Megan Turcotte of Clinton, spoke to the girls during the session about getting involved and making the most out of their senior year.
