HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - This week speech professionals and parents from throughout the country are learning the famed DuBard Association Method at the DuBard School for Language Disorders at Southern Miss.

The DuBard Method has been in use at the school since it's creation in 1962. Since then, it has gained a reputation for helping children with a variety of learning issues achieve success.

The intensive one week course has drawn students from five states to Hattiesburg. Some of them are using the course to further their careers or help their own children with language disorders improve their speech and communication skills. Maureen Martin is the Director of the Dubard School for Language Disorders.

"It utilizes every modality of visual, auditory, tactile and motor skills for learning. And by utilizing all those modalities, many children who have not learned in traditional ways have been able to be very successful," said Martin.

Following the course, students will be required to complete an extensive project that will be evaluated by DuBard School professionals.
