HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The high number of traffic fatalities on highways in the Pine Belt lately has prompted the Mississippi Highway Patrol to issue new warnings about wearing safety belts. 8 people have died in 4 separate accidents since last Saturday.
And the Highway Patrol says at least some of those deaths could have been prevented had the victims been wearing safety belts.
Today, troopers are again reminding motorists that the law requires you to wear seat belts. They're also urging drivers to slow down.
The Highway Patrol is in the midst of a "Click-it-or-Ticket" safety belt awareness campaign.
