Miss Mississippi USA officially welcomed home

COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - Miss Mississippi USA 2010 has been officially welcomed back to her home county. 20-year-old Breanne Ponder of Mt. Olive signed autographs and greeted family, friends and neighbors at a reception at Morgan's on Main in Collins this afternoon.

Ponder was a top-10 finalist in last month's Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas.

During today's reception, Ponder received a key to the city of Collins and a couple of college scholarships.

She has graduated from Jones County Junior College and will enter Southern Miss in the fall as a junior marketing and public relations major.

    Mississippi corrections officials discovered more contraband than expected during a shakedown at a Parchman work camp. The shakedown at Unit 26 of the Mississippi State Penitentiary, part of Operation Zero Tolerance, resulting in the discovery of canned and leaf tobacco, cellphones, cellphone chargers and marijuana.
