Crash on Hwy 98 leaves one dead

NEW AUGUSTA, MS (WDAM) - One person was killed and one sent to the hospital Wednesday when a car collided with another car waiting behind a school bus.

Around 1 p.m. a car waiting behind a stopped school bus near New Augusta was struck from behind by another vehicle which failed to stop in time.

Both cars caught fire, but the car waiting for the school bus suffered severe damage, and the driver was killed.

Authorities will not identify the victims at this time. No one aboard the school bus was injured, and the bus was not struck.

Traffic is expected to remain motionless on Hwy 98 east until 3 p.m., police said.
