HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - The first full day of the American Legions Boys State got under way early Monday morning.

During the morning session the more than 300 delegates from high schools all over the state took part in seminars on city election processes and how state party conventions are conducted.

The delegates are high school students that have been hand picked to participate based on leadership potential, academic achievement, and community service.

The week long event is designed to help the students become better acquainted with the political process and  legislative procedures.

Through out the event the delegates will have an opportunity to hear from several elected officials from all levels of government.
