HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) -Dutch diplomats and military officials along with family members of Dutch war veterans of world war two payed a visit to the Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby Sunday afternoon.
The visit is part of a remembrance of the pilots, air crew, and ground crew know as the Dutch Flyers from the Netherlands who trained at Jackson Army Airfield during world war two. Thirty members of the Dutch Flyers were killed during training and are buried in Jackson.
The history of the Dutch Flyers in Mississippi and Jackson Army Air Base are contained at the Museum.
Each year a memorial service is held at Cedarlawn Cemetery in Jackson to honor the group.
