JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The state Department of Employment Security says Mississippi's unemployment rate was 10.7 percent in April. That's down from 11.1 percent in March. The national rate was 9.5 percent for March.
Rankin County had the lowest rate in the state at 6.9 percent in April, while Noxubee County had the highest at 20.4 percent.
The MDES said Wednesday that 20 of the 82 counties had unemployment rates less than or equal to the state rate, with two counties above 20 percent.
MDES said construction and leisure and hospitality posted the largest gains in employment.
