HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A visit to Hattiesburg by some members of one of the most celebrated American fighter squadrons in World War Two wrapped up today. Tuskegee Airmen Col. Charles McGee and Lt. Col. Leo Gray met local residents and signed autographs at Main Street Books in Hattiesburg this morning.
McGee and Gray have been visiting the Hub City for the first time. Both retired from the Air Force after long careers and both served in the 332nd Fighter Group of the Army Air Corps.
That was a highly-decorated, racially-segregated unit that helped break down racial stereotypes during the war.
The Tuskegee Airmen's visit was arranged by Hattiesburg artist and historian Clint Martin.
