HATTIESBURG, MS (City of Hattiesburg) - Hattiesburg joins the entire nation in observing Memorial Day on May 31.

Beginning at 10 a.m., the Hattiesburg Veterans Committee will host the 27th Annual Memorial Day Service at Hattiesburg Veteran's Park located downtown.

The program is to honor the 173 men from the Hattiesburg area that have made the ultimate sacrifice with their lives in defense of our country, beginning in World War I to present.  Major General William Freeman, Adjunct General of the Mississippi National Guard will be the principle speaker.

Ted Tibbett, Hattiesburg Veterans Committee Chairman said, "A special part of the service this year will be honoring the two Gold Star mothers and the families of SGT Anthony Blount and Specialist Magee, two local heroes that gave their lives this year in fighting the war on terror." Their names will be added to the four granite pillars at the park. All 173 names on the pillars will be read at the service.

The public is invited to this moving ceremony.
