HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - It's the time of year when students across the Pine Belt are graduating from high school, but Tuesday some four and five year olds from P.A.C.E Head Start in Hattiesburg had their moment in the spotlight.
Over three hundred seventy students were recognized for completing the program at Southern Miss's Reed Green Coliseum.
Helping to celebrate their achievements were several Hattiesburg High School Seniors, who were former Head Start kids. They included the class of 2010's Valedictorian and Salutatorian.
Executive Director of P.A.C.E Head Start, Peggy Answorth, said this ceremony is a first step in these young student's academic career.
"As the children come across the stage to get their little diplomas, or certificates, we ask the parents to come with us. As a signal that the parents will be with them as they journey on to elementary school, high school and probably to college," said Answorth.
In August, the Head Start graduates will enter kindergarten.
