COVINGTON COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - It's been a rough time for Stephanie Owens and her family.
"It's a terrible feeling, it's terrible," said Owens.
Owens' son, Kendric has been missing since Sunday morning. Her family searched for Kendric, but found no sign of him. They called the sheriff's department Sunday evening to ask for help in finding Kendric.
"I feel like he's somewhere, you know maybe just scared because you know people are in the yard," said Owens.
Owens said Kendric is very quiet and keeps to himself. Kendric usually takes walks in the nearby woods and returns an hour or two later. Owens said she knew something was not right.
"He's never left," Owens said. "He's always been up and down this road."
Monday, several agencies and volunteers from around the pinebelt teamed up to help search about 450 acres around Kendric's home.
"That's the area that we're trying to cover," said Covington County Sheriff Ben Ford. "A lot of it has grown over and we just have to walk through it.
Authorities and Kendric's mother are worried about his health and other dangers in the woods if that's where he is.
Gregory Barnes was one of the volunteers searching for Kendric. He walked up and down the roads hoping to find a sign.
"I did this all night," said Barnes. "Me and my partner was in the car. We walked the whole black cat, riding around lights on and everything."
Barnes said it is not like Kendric to disappear for this long. He said he is going to continue to look for him until he's found.
"I'm trying to do everything I can to help, said Barnes.
