HATTIESBURG, MS (HATTIESBURG CONVENTION COMMISSION) - The African American Military History Museum is celebrating its first year anniversary on May 22nd at 11 a.m. The celebration will include a program which will include the recognition of the "Volunteer" and "Youth Volunteer" of the Year as well as "African American Military History Committee Member" of the Year. A Museum scholarship will also be given out to the winner of the Museum's essay contest.
Also included in the celebration will be a first year exhibit honoring the Museum. The exhibit includes a scrapbook covering the renovation and opening of the Museum. A collage of photographs will show the various people and organizations who have come through the Museum, and a map highlights where visitors have come from around the world.
The Museum is also the recent recipient of the Mississippi Heritage Trust Award for African American Preservation. The award was presented in Natchez to the Museum for its work in restoring the East 6th Street USO.
