HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - USM's Southern Arena Theatre is taking place this summer despite state mandated budget cuts at the university.

The production, William Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors" opens up in June and runs through July fourth. This is the 34th year of Southern Arena Theatre, commonly called S-A-T.

In years past, the university held three productions a summer and two were presented in 2009. Chair of USM's Theatre and Dance Department, Lou Rackoff, hopes the cheerful nature of this years production will signal a bright new start for the program.

"This is one of his most joyous and light hearted shows. I thought what a great way to celebrate the past history of S-A-T, the present history of S-A-T, and we hope the future of S-A-T when we can return it to it's full three show repertory," said Rackoff.

For theatre students who are cast in the production, S-A-T provides a professional atmosphere for them to hone their skills.
