Tribal Council delays vote on Jones County casino

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Tribal Council of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has postponed its vote on a new casino in Jones County.

The 17-member council met today and discussed the proposal but took no action saying it wanted to look further into financing options.

The tribe said it is interested in building an $18 million casino on the Bogue Homa American Indian reservation near Sandersville.

The casino would have no gaming tables - only video poker, video slots, and video bingo.

The tribe also said it may not serve alcohol for the first two years.

Jones County officials have expressed concern over the possible casino, claiming the county will see no economic benefit from it. A spokesman for the tribe says no date has been set for an actual vote by the council on the casino proposal.
