PCS students collect "Pennies for Pounds"

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Some Hattiesburg elementary school students have shown how some spare change can help spare the lives of homeless pets. Today, Presbyterian Christian School students Anna Claire Walker and Sierra Parker presented a check for more than $3,200 to the Southern Pines Animal Shelter.

The money was raised at the school in a "Pennies for Pounds" program.

More than 1,900 pounds of pennies were collected from students and their parents in just a few days.

Shelter employees say the money will be used to upgrade the shelter.
