HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Southern Miss was busy Thursday transforming the Rock into the site for the university's centennial commencement this Saturday, May fifteenth.
The university will graduate over 16-hundred students from each USM campus. Members of the class of 2010 will receive a medallion signifying this special year.
Crews laid down flooring on top of the football field to protect the turf and placed two thousand chairs for graduates. A stage is being set up to seat 41 people and it includes a large number of lights and audio equipment.
Former New York City Mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, will be the commencement speaker and he'll address the importance of crisis leadership. Giuliani will also be presented with an honorary doctorate.
Commencement starts at 9:00am Saturday. Southern Miss officials say graduates have maps detailing available parking areas. Family and friends are encouraged to arrive early on Saturday, although there will be plenty of seating in the stadium.
