Petal kids use "Risk Watch" to be safe

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Some Petal children are getting an early start in learning about injury prevention. Students at C.H. Johnson Headstart Center, Petal Primary School and several child care facilities will be utilizing the "Risk-Watch" curriculum.

It teaches children in grades K through 8th about fire and water safety, poison control and firearms safety. It's a hands-on program paid for with a state grant.

Today, the Mississippi State Fire Marshal's Office, the Mississippi Burn Camp and the Petal Fire Department hosted a news conference about "Risk-Watch."

Many other school districts in Mississippi are already using the curriculum.
