JACKSON, MS (AP) - Authorities say a Belhaven University graduate is accused of killing a friend during a party that occurred hours after he received his college degree.

The Clarion-Ledger reports Joseph Patterson of Morton is charged in the shooting death of Michael Lee Guy, also of Morton. Authorities say Guy was found dead outside a home on Mississippi 41 in Scott County after 3 a.m. Sunday.

Sheriff Mike Lee says several people were at an outdoors party when Patterson allegedly walked up to Guy, shot him in the back of the head, then fired several shots at a crowd. Lee says investigators do not know a motive.

A dispatcher at the sheriff's department said she didn't know if Patterson had an attorney.
