HATTIESBURG - It was a somber pause of remembrance in downtown Hattiesburg Tuesday morning, where folks gathered to honor those who served and protected and gave their lives to do so.
It was the annual Forrest County Sheriff's Office law enforcement memorial paying tribute to officers of the past who died wearing the badge of the sheriff's office.
The death first happened back in 1927 and the most recent was in 1985.
"We the people remain the beneficiaries of a proud and noble legacy. And the humble purpose of our words today are never adequate or sufficient," said Judge Johnny Williams.
Those officers killed in the line of duty include Howard Hagwood, Stewart Coates, Frederick Humphrey, Johnny Watts and John Klem III.
