Perry County nurse charged with stealing drugs

JACKSON, MS (WDAM) - A Perry County nurse has been arrested following indictment by a Perry County grand jury, charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Cindy McIlwain, 34, of Buckatunna, was indicted April 29 on one count of illegally obtaining Lortab pills while working as an LPN at Perry County Nursing Center.

She allegedly took prescription medication from a nursing cart which was for a patient.

McIlwain was arrested Thursday by investigators with the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Attorney General's Office and taken to the Perry County Jail where she was booked.  If convicted, she faces faces not less than one year nor more than five years and or a $1000 fine.
