McNair scholars hear from program founder

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Students in the McNair scholars program at Southern Miss got some words of encouragement today from the program's founder. Carl McNair was the featured speaker at an annual recognition luncheon for McNair scholars.

He founded the program in 1988 in honor of his brother, Dr. Ronald McNair, a NASA astronaut who was killed in the space shuttle Challenger explosion in 1986. The McNair scholars program helps disadvantaged students attain advanced degrees.

It's in its 10th year at Southern Miss.
