HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - A Jones County Junior College student has been selected to participate in a prestigious NASA aerospace program at the Johnson Space Center this May.

Brandon Shedd is a sophomore engineering major at JCJC and one of 74 students chosen to be a part of the National Community College Aerospace Scholars Pilot Program.

Shedd is the only student from Mississippi selected for the three day event in Houston, Texas.

To apply for a spot, Shedd put together a detailed mission to Mars presentation that aimed to investigate the planet's atmosphere and surface.

Shedd said, "I've always loved the concept of going somewhere we are not really supposed to be. It's a harmful environment, but yet we go there."

The NASA program starts May 20th, following Shedd's JCJC graduation. He plans to continue his aerospace studies at Mississippi State this fall.
