HOWARD, S.D. (AP) - A company that makes and repairs wind turbine blades is laying off about one-third of the work force at its plant in Howard, S.D.
Knight and Carver vice president Gary Kanaby said Wednesday that 16 of the 55 workers at the plant will be laid off this week and that other layoffs are possible. He says the company may also close the plant temporarily in about a month.
Kanaby blamed the layoffs on a production slowdown caused by a lull in the wind energy industry.
He says Knight and Carver has several pending contracts that could keep production going or allow the plant to open in a few months if it does close. He says the company remains committed to the community.
