HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - With the surge in Afghanistan taking up much of the war news these days, we mustn't lose sight of the fact that we still have men and women in uniform serving - and dying - in Iraq.
That fact hit home quite literally this week when Petal native Anthony Blount was one of two soldiers killed and four others injured by the explosion of an IED.
The 21-year-old PFC was due to come home next month for the birth of his daughter.
His wife, Amanda, lives near Oak Grove.
Private Blount's commanding officer, Lt. Robert Wilson who has relatives living in Jones County was also killed.
We continue to pay the highest price possible in American blood spilled and lives given to fight against the Islamic extremists who want nothing more than to see Americans die and our country demolished.
We should never dishonor the sacrifice of our military by calling this war that was waged on us out of hatred of our civilization anything other than what it is. it is not a man-made disaster. these people are terrorists and nothing else.
While there may be many good peace-loving Muslims, they are not the ones that are killing Americans. Muslim extremists are doing that both here at home and abroad. We salute these fine young men along with all who have fought and died to preserve our way of life and our prayers are with their families.
