PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Traffic concerns and overcrowding on school buses have prompted the Petal School District to make adjustments in the class day for many students. Beginning next school year, students in middle school and high school will start and end their school day about 45 minutes later than this year.
Primary and elementary school start and end times will remain the same. School buses will also run double routes.
School superintendent Dr. John Buchanan says although it will be an inconvenience for some parents, the changes are necessary.
He says the new policy will shorten the length of time students will have to wait for buses in the afternoon and will eliminate overcrowding on buses.
