HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg city leaders will be meeting with the public as well as Southern Miss officials to get input on a project aimed to ease traffic and safety concerns along West 4th Street.
A public hearing is set for 5:30 Tuesday at the Jackie Dole Community Center in downtown to discuss the stretch of road between Highway 49 and Golden Eagle Ave. University officials say because of the new Century Park student housing going up there will be an increased number of students crossing the road to get to the main part of campus.
One suggestion from the university is to reduce the four lane highway to two lanes. One of the extra lanes would become a turn lane and the other would become a bike lane.
We'll have details on the meeting on the Nightbeat.
