JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Dominic Gebben was found guilty just after noon Tuesday for the hit-and-run death of 5-year-old Nathan Key.
The jury returned a guilty verdict on both counts: manslaughter by culpable negligence and felony fleeing. Sentencing is set for July 15.
The defense did not call any witnesses. The defendant, Dominic Gebben, never took the stand.
The prosecution called several witnesses to the stand at the Jones County Courthouse Monday, including the school bus driver, other motorists who were behind the bus, the mother of Key and a pathologist.
The defense did not dispute whether Gebben was the driver of the vehicle or if he left the scene. However, the defense questioned whether it was culpable negligence or a lesser form of negligence.
Gebben was charged after passing a stopped school bus and hitting the boy as he exited the school bus back in December of 2009.
Gebben may face up to 25 years in jail.
