PETAL, MS (WDAM) - The City of Petal today celebrated the life of one of their own who was killed in the line of duty this month.
Flags will fly at half staff today through Saturday.
The body of Spc. William Anthony Blount, 21, proceeded through the streets of Petal after it arrived at the Pine Belt Regional Airport at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
The procession of Blount's body from the airport to Moore Funeral Home, led by Mississippi Highway Patrol officers and Petal officials, travelled from Interstate 59 to Evelyn Gandy Parkway to Petal High School along Mississippi 42. The procession then doubled back and travelled to the funeral home.
Residents lined the streets, and students were released from school to view the procession. They carried flags and posters.
