USM Police to create sobriety checkpoints on campus this weekend

HATTIESBURG, MS (THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI) - The University of Southern Mississippi Police Department is the recipient of an alcohol awareness grant from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety's Division of Public Safety Planning.

In adherence with the grant's guidelines, University Police will conduct several mandated enforcement actions Thursday-Saturday, April 15-17, between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. As part of this effort, officers will conduct sobriety/safety checkpoints on campus and monitor compliance with state law and university policies regarding underage drinking.

    Saturday morning, contestants in the 68th annual Mississippi Miss Hospitality Pageant gathered at the University of Southern Mississippi for one last social event before the final competition.
